Here are a few links of articles, blog posts and other stuff from the week for you to read over weekend coffee (or chai, mmm):
- The Federal Transportation Bill Is a Health Care Bill — A UCLA professor makes the case for transportation’s role in public health and health costs.
- Bike Commuters by County — Interactive map built with 2010 Census data showing bike commuting by county.
- #bikeschool Question from a Florida Bike Commuter — Blog post describing the dilemma of a Florida bicycle commuter being targeted by gangs, seeking advice. So far, the best advice really has been to mitigate risk and not bike commute. Any ideas for him?
- Don’t be railroaded into myths about trains and transit: They’re essential to the future — From Seattle, a column calling out America’s subsidy of airlines and autos and oil companies.
Got anything cool to share?

thanks for the link & the call for suggestions! a couple people have offered some very good ideas in a long-term sense, but there doesn’t seem to be a good way of commuting by bike to my school in the immediate future. it’s a really weird bottleneck that is hard to explain without a map…
there are other mitigating circumstances that i have to take into consideration, too, not the least of which is having $5,000 worth of hearing aids in my backpack that i have absolutely no way of replacing should i get jumped and robbed. gah! it sucks.
